Lancashire County Council are seeking to add capacity within the Public Health Department, with a specific focus on promoting healthy weight.
Alison Moore, Public Health Specialist at Lancashire County Council, said:
"We are delighted to be working closely with Food Active on this programme. Lancashire County Council are committed to improving the lives of our residents and ensuring good services. Lancashire County Council and the District Councils are also committed to helping residents stay healthy, including being at a healthy weight, as we know this can have has long term implications on people's wellbeing. We have looked closely at what works in terms of creating a healthy weight environment and through the Healthy Hearts transformation programme have secured the investment we need to deliver this programme. We would like to work with other organisations and residents of Lancashire to help steer the programme, and are keen to hear from anyone who would like to collaborate. Thank you for visiting the site, I hope you find the information useful. If you need more information or would like to talk to us about getting involved, please get in touch".
The project is being implemented by Food Active, a healthy weight programme of work under the public health charity Health Equalities Group (HEG).
Set up in 2013 by the North West Directors of Public Health, a ‘North West Obesity Task Force’ was officially launched as Food Active in 2014. Taking an upstream prevention approach to addressing healthier weight, the programme focusses on advocacy, targeted campaigns, research and strategic partnerships to drive forward policy calls. Food Active is commissioned by local authority public health teams, NHS organisations, ICB’s and OHID teams at regional level.
“We are excited to be working with both Lancashire County Council and colleagues in the district councils on this programme of work. This is a real opportunity to build on some of the excellent work and exiting relationships developed through the Pennine Lancashire Childhood Obesity Trailblazer Programme, supporting important priorities in promoting healthy weight, healthy hearts and driving down inequalities. This project is part of a much wider systems approach and partnership work to help improve the well-being of communities across the county by engaging key stakeholders such as Elected Members, children & young people and businesses in driving this important agenda forward.”
